Here is my most recent doll listing, Raggedy Penelope. She is a departure for me, as I usually work with clay, but I really enjoyed making an all cloth doll. And in light of my recent painting classes, I plan to do more. I love her serious expression, as though she’s not at going to be cheerful and cute, just because she’s a doll! You can find her in my Etsy store.
I’m fortunate enough to have a husband who is not only very supportive of my doll-making, but actually really likes dolls himself (just the other day he was saying how he misses Arabella, featured in a previous entry, because she was a fave of his.)
So, said lovely husband asked for a very special doll for his birthday: a Persian vampire in Elizabethan dress with Maori face-markings(!!!) I do not even know yet what such a doll might look like, but I figure she will come to me as they always do, as if they’d always existed.
I thought it might be fun to chronicle the evolution of this creature, as it will surely be my most ambitious project yet, so here are the first pictures:
The head, hands and feet are all made of paperclay, and air-drying clay which is quite time consuming, as it must be built up in layers, but gives beautiful, and very durable result - it is my favourite for large dolls. I’ll post more pictures as I progress... I'm open to ideas!
